51 Rules

Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs is one of my professional role models.  I have mentioned this before and will mention it again.  Here is a listing of his Rules.  You'll no doubt notice that there are double rules, missing rules, and that they don't add up to 51.  Rest assured, this is all part of the NCIS diaspora*.

Rule #1: Never let suspects sit together.
Rule #1: Never screw over your partner.
Rule #2: Always wear gloves at a crime scene. 
Rule #3: Never believe what you are told. 
Rule #3: Never be unreachable.
Rule #4: Best way to keep a secret is to keep it to yourself. Second best way is to tell one other person if you must. There is no third best. 
Rule #6: Never say you’re sorry.
Rule #7: Always be specific when you lie.
Rule #8: Never take anything for granted. 
Rule #9: Never go anywhere without a knife.
Rule #10: Never get involved personally on a case.
Rule #11: Walk away when the job’s done. 
Rule #12: Never date a co-worker.
Rule #13: Never involve lawyers. 
Rule #15: Always work as a team.
Rule #18: It's better to seek forgiveness than ask permission.
Rule #22: Never, ever bother Gibbs in Interrogation.
Rule #23: Never mess with a Marine's coffee if you want to live.
Rule #27: There are two ways to follow someone. First way, they never notice you. Second way, they only notice you.
Rule #38: Your case, your lead. 
Rule #39: There is no such thing as coincidence.

Rule #45: (pending) Clean up the mess you make.
Rule #51: Sometimes you're wrong. 
Number not Revealed: In my country, on my team, working my cases, my people don't bypass the chain of command.           

*I always wanted to use the word diaspora.  This was a reach, but I'm going with it.
